Wednesday, March 18, 2009
PHILADELPHIA, PA –– Chestnut Hill College inducted 7 new members into the
Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor
Society at a ceremony on campus on March 18, 2009.
Membership in Sigma Tau Delta is intended to recognize students
in English and Literature programs that achieve distinction in their
undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies. There are over 600 active
chapters of Sigma Tau
Delta and they induct approximately 7,000 members annually. Students are
invited to become members of Sigma Tau Delta if they achieve a 3.0 G.P.A. in
their major or minor, are in the top 35 percent of their class, and have
completed at least three semesters of coursework, including two English courses.
Students in Sigma Tau
Delta are eligible to compete for scholarships and writing awards, and to
present professional work at regional and international conferences and
conventions.
At Chestnut Hill College, the
honor society holds activities such as trips to see acclaimed authors such as
Norman Mailer, poetry readings, and a “books into movies” film series. The group
also holds a unique “Sonnets and Kisses” Valentines Day fundraiser on campus-
where Sigma Tau Delta
members will deliver a sonnet and some chocolate kisses to the valentine of
your choice.
