Chestnut Hill College to hold Piano Master Class with Harvey Wedeen

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Harvey Wedeen, chair of the keyboard department at the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University, will present a master class with piano majors of the College’s music department on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. in the East Parlor, St. Joseph Hall.

Professor Wedeen has taught at Temple University for more than 40 years and has had a varied career as a performer and teacher. He has studied with noted French pianists Robert and Gaby Casadesus in France, and with Russian pianists Isabella Vengerova and Alexander Borovsky in the United States. Professor Wedeen earned a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Columbia University, and did graduate work in musicology under Paul Henry Lang. He earned a master’s degree from the Julliard School of Music under Adele Marcus and subsequently became her assistant.

Before coming to Temple University, Professor Wedeen was a teacher and administrator at the Henry Street Settlement Music School in New York City and was also a member of the piano faculty at Bowling Green State University, Ohio. He has regularly presented master classes throughout the United States and Canada. His students have won international competitions, teach in universities and conservatories world-wide, and perform as soloists, accompanists, and chamber music recitalists.

Harvey Wedeen is the recipient of the coveted Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching, and has received top honors from Temple University.
