33rd Annual Carol Night and Christmas Concerts
Friday, December 4, 2009
PHILADELPHIA, PA – A long standing tradition at Chestnut Hill College, the 33rd annual Carol Night will take place on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rotunda of St. Joseph Hall. The College campus is located at 9601 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia.
This holiday celebration includes student performances by the Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, the Hill Singers, Brass Quintet, Gospel Choir, and The Roasted Chestnuts. The program will include a lively selection of songs of the holiday season in strings, horn, jazz, gospel and doo-wop. The concert also features a visit from Frosty the Snowman and of course, Santa Claus.
In keeping with College tradition, the Rotunda and campus will be decorated for the holiday season, courtesy of the undergraduate classes of Chestnut Hill. This holiday decorating tradition, celebrating its 82nd year, was started by the first graduating class at Chestnut Hill College in 1927.
The annual Christmas Concert will take place on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 3 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lafayette Hill, Pa. and again on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 3 p.m. in the Chestnut Hill College Auditorium on the College campus.
The Christmas concert features the Chestnut Hill College Community Chorus directed by Doris Schmauk, The Doctors’ Chamber Orchestra directed by Fawzi Habboushe, M.D., the Chestnut Hill College String Ensemble under the direction of Joan King, and the CHC Flute Ensemble directed by Barbara Glennon, SSJ.
The program includes the chorus selection “Agnus Dei” from the Faure Requiem, and selections from “The Messiah.” The Doctors’ Chamber Orchestra will also join the community chorus in selections from “Cavelleria Rusticana,” in addition to other beautiful Christmas carol arrangements.
Carol Night and the Christmas concerts are free and open to the public. For more information about Carol Night or the Christmas concerts, contact Kathleen McCloskey, SSJ, at 215.248.7194 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
