Release Date: Tuesday, September 6, 2011
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Chestnut Hill College will commemorate the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 with a weekend of service to the local community. Weekend of Peace: A Memorial for 9/11 will take place Friday, September 9 through Sunday, September 11.
The event, which is sponsored by Campus Ministry, Service-Learning, and the Institute for Forgiveness and Reconciliation, will provide students an opportunity to engage in service projects throughout the Philadelphia area, and to reflect and express themselves through music.
The weekend will begin with a concert on Friday evening showcasing the talents of Chestnut Hill students as they express themselves through song and dance. On Saturday, September 10, students will spend the day volunteering at five local non-profits and charities, including Face-to-Face Germantown, the Sisters of Saint Joseph Welcome Center, The Arc of Philadelphia/PDDC, Shriner’s Hospital, and the St. Francis Inn. On Sunday, September 11, all participants will volunteer at the Cardinal Bevilacqua Center in Kensington to assist families with work around their homes and their community.
