College Board of Directors Unanimously Elects Alumna Margaret Carney McCaffery as Chair of the Board

At their quarterly meeting on May 21, 2012, the board of directors of Chestnut Hill College elected Margaret Carney McCaffery, M.Ed., Class of 1977, as chair of the board of directors, effective September 2012. She is the second chair of the Chestnut Hill College board of directors who is not a Sister of Saint Joseph.


Mrs. McCaffery completed two, three-year terms on the board during which she served as chair of the Development Committee for the past four years, and was a member of the Enrollment Management and Student Life Committee. Margaret was born and raised in Delaware; she currently lives in Hillsborough, California, outside San Francisco. Margaret and her husband, Michael, are major donors to the College. The Reception Room in the Commonwealth Chateau at SugarLoaf and the McCaffery Lounge in Fournier Hall (former Social Room) are named in their honor. Her commitment to the Mission of the College, leadership skills and generosity are recognized by the board of directors as critical to the future of the College.


Sister Anne Myers, SSJ, congregational president of the Sisters of Saint Joseph and vice chair of the board and Carol Jean Vale, SSJ, Ph.D., president of the College said, “We would like take this opportunity to publicly thank Mrs. Barbara D’Iorio Martino, B.S., Class of 1960, for her leadership as the first chair of the board who was not a Sister of Saint Joseph. We are grateful for her continuous dedication and commitment to the College and its Mission, her participation in all cycles of change over the last 25 years and her unwavering zeal for the future of the College. We are grateful to Barbara and her husband, Rocco, for their leadership and generosity to the College which is evident in the naming of Barbara D’Iorio Martino Hall and other notable places on campus.”
