Physician's Assistant Partnership Program
Chestnut Hill College has developed graduate partnerships with Arcadia University’s Physician Assistant Program. This partnership offers the four (4) most qualified CHC students who successfully complete the prerequisite requirements admission into Arcadia’s PA program. Students accepted into the program will earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology or Molecular Biology or Chemistry from Chestnut Hill College and continue on to Arcadia to complete the two year master’s degree program in Medical Science (M.M.S.).
Arcadia University’s Physician Assistant (PA) program prepares graduate students from across the country for careers in today’s rapidly changing medical environment. Utilizing the resources of campuses in Glenside,
Pa., and Christiana, Del., and the region’s medical communities, the program provides students with the foundation for professional growth through personal attention, diverse clinical experience, and a commitment to excellence.
The PA program is designed to produce graduates who are well-equipped to deliver high-quality, costeffective primary healthcare in a wide variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices and other community settings.
What is a Physician's Assistant?
The physician assistant is trained to take medical histories, perform physical examinations, diagnose common illnesses, order laboratory tests and determine treatment including prescribing appropriate medication, as well as counseling and educating patients concerning their medical problems.
The clinical phase consists of seven required rotations including Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, Geriatrics/Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Women’s Health, Pediatrics, and Surgery. In addition, there are 12 weeks of clinical electives.
During the clinical rotations, the students are visited by a faculty member to ensure that they are getting an appropriate learning experience. Every 12 weeks, the students return to campus for exams and professional practice lectures. For each required rotation, the students complete a researched case
study. One of these case studies is presented as part of the Senior Colloquium at the end of the clinical phase.
- Completion of Chestnut Hill's degree requirements for the Bachelor of Sciences in Biology or Molecular Biology or Chemistry.
- Successfully complete the prerequisite course work for Arcadia’s PA program
- Biology: 6 courses, must include anatomy, physiology, and microbiology
- Chemistry: 4 courses, must include Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry is recommended.
- Psychology: 1 course, with developmental and abnormal recommended
- Mathematics: 1 statistics course
- Humanities: 5 courses, with a course in ethics or medical ethics highly recommended.
- An overall GPA of 3.3 in prerequisite courses (humanities not included in the calculation). A grade of “C” or better must be earned in each prerequisite course.
- Achieve a minimum total score of 1100 of the verbal, quantitative GRE and at least a 4 on the analytical portions of the GRE. (The test is usually taken during junior year.)
- A minimum of 500 hours of patient care experience or a combination of health care experience and research. (paid or volunteer)
- A recommendation from a practicing, licensed physician or PA.
- A recommendation from the Chestnut Hill College Pre-medical Advisory Committee.
- Successful interview with the Director of the Arcadia University MSPAS program in the FIRST semester of the student’s junior year.
- Complete and submit to Arcadia University the Letter of Intent Form identifying the desired date of admission to Arcadia U. This form must be submitted no later than the end of the student’s junior year at CHC.
- Must meet all applicable Arcadia University PA program deadlines for application for admission, orientation and registration, and payment of tuition and fees. No application fee.
Note: Students who do not meet these requirements can still apply for admission to Arcadia. They will be considered in relation to other qualified candidates in the general applicant pool.
