Harry Potter Weekend
Have you ever wondered what Butter Beer really tastes like or how it feels to stroll up and down Diagon Alley in search of various wizardry items? Have you wanted to don the Sorting Hat to find out which house you were destined for or better yet, to watch someone catch the Golden Snitch in a high stakes Quidditch match?
If so, wonder no more and plan to attend Chestnut Hill’s Annual Harry Potter Weekend!
Harry Potter Fan Fest
Step into the town of Chestnut Hill and prepare yourself for a magical adventure designed with both wizards and muggles in mind. Enchantingly transformed into Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley for the weekend, you’ll find themed shops, restaurants serving Potter-inspired cuisine and even iconic locales including Platform 9 and 3/4 (Chestnut Hill West) and the Great Hall at Hogwarts (Iron Hill Brewery).
You might even run into Harry, Ron, Hermoine, Professor Snape and other beloved characters as the Chestnut Hill College Theatre Department dons the costumes and personas that go with them while attending some of the town’s many events. There will be opportunities to take potions and Defense against the Arts classes, a Sorting Hat demonstration, wizard chess, viewing of the first film and much more.
Welcome to Hogwarts
If the fan fest isn’t enough to transport you to JK Rowling’s beloved magical world, board the Knight Bus out of town and onto the beautiful, charming campus that is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry aka Chestnut Hill College.
Often classified by students as looking just like Hogwarts, the College actually transforms into the wizarding school for the weekend. Plan to attend the Harry Potter Conference, a series of lectures and conversations about the real-world impact of the books. Make sure you pick up a copy of the Daily Prophet as well, provided by the CHC Newspaper staff. Finally, once you are all finished with your studies, join us for the Annual Philadelphia Brotherly Cup!
The “Love Cup,” which first brought Quidditch and Harry Potter lore to both the town and College, is back for a sixth year. Bringing together teams from across the Mid-Atlantic, the round robin “muggle” Quidditch tournament, which is a cross between dodgeball, basketball and rugby is a fast-paced, action-packed game that is sure to entertain fans of all ages. It even features broomsticks, snitches and bludgers, just like the game made famous in Rowling’s books.
Please check back often for further information as well as the complete schedule of events for the 2015 Harry Potter Weekend (October 17-18) at Chestnut Hill College and Chestnut Hill, PA.
Congratulations to the CHC Quidditch team on winning the 2014 Brotherly Love Cup! For a detailed account of last year's activities from both the quidditch tournament and the conference, please read the article in the CHC Connections newsletter
