Dear Parents or Guardians,
We understand that it is difficult to send a child away to school and we are happy to try to make the transition for you and your student easier. The following is a brief overview of the services offered at the Health Office.
The Chestnut Hill Health office is staffed by registered nurses, a nurse practitioner, and overseen by our physician consultant, Dr. Erik Soiferman.
We are able to see your student for routine medical illnesses on a walk-in basis. No appointments are needed. The Health Office is open Monday-Friday 8-430pm. There are also extended evening hours Monday-Thursday. The nurses are able to perform routine tests such as rapid strep screens, urine dips and we have a variety of over-the-counter medications available. The nurse practitioner is available to diagnose and write prescriptions as needed and nearby pharmacies with free delivery service are available to the college should your student require prescription medication.
Chestnut Hill Hospital is less than a mile away from our campus and if we feel your student needs prompt medical care; we can arrange transport to the hospital. The College’s shuttle buses also run past the hospital so the students can go to the hospital for routine lab work or doctor’s appointments. There are several urgent care centers close to the college as well, with shuttle service to at least one of these available on the weekends.
We also need to let you know that all services provided at the Health Office are confidential. You are welcome to call and provide us with information regarding your student, but we cannot discuss your student’s visit with you without a signed release from your son/daughter if they are over the age of 18 .This is in conjunction with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) which is a law all health care providers must adhere to. If you would like your student to sign such a release, please have him/her come to the Health Office during normal weekly hours.
We strongly encourage students to carry personal health insurance although this is not required. Students are able to visit the health office at any time during the semester free of charge through the health services fee. Please visit healthcare.gov for more information about health insurance resources. At this time there is no health insurance available through the college.
