Chestnut Hill College Students to Compete in Fishing Championship
Monday July 7, 2010
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Chestnut Hill College freshman John Reading of Phoenixville, Pa. and junior Adrian Avena of Vineland, New Jersey will compete for the second consecutive year in the National Guard FLW College Fishing Regional Championship on Jordan Lake in North Carolina from November 11-13, 2010. Avena and Reading qualified for the regional championship by taking fourth place in the National Guard FLW College Fishing bass tournament held in Smallwood State Park in Maryland on June 5, 2010.
As a result of their 4th place win, moving up in rank since the Chestnut Hill College team of Troy Eikenberry and Adrian Avena finished 5th place in the tournament last year, Avena and Reading won $3,000; $1,500 was donated to the College and $1,500 went toward the College’s bass-fishing club. The winner of the regional championship on November 13, 2010 will receive $25,000 for their school and their club, and the top five teams will advance to the National Fishing Championship in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The Chestnut Hill College Fishing Club has enjoyed immediate success with founders Eikenberry and Avena, who lived on the same residence hallway their freshman year and started the club with help from faculty and staff.
Last year they finished 17 out of 40 at a Maryland tournament in June, then 13th at a New York tournament last July.
