PHILADELPHIA, PA – Dr. Michael Seiden, president of Fox Chase Cancer Center will present the 18th Annual Biomedical lecture on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 4 p.m. in the East Parlor.
Dr. Seiden’s lecture will review 50 years of progress in the understanding and treatment of cancer, and will take a glimpse at where cancer care might be in 10-20 years and how scientific inquiry will aid in the quest to prevail over cancer.
Dr. Seiden’s research focuses on clinical and translational studies in ovarian cancer that are designed to expedite the application of laboratory discoveries to clinical therapies for patients, and to use clinical insights to form testable questions in the laboratory to help advance our understanding of cancer biology.
Dr. Seiden earned his undergraduate degree at Oberlin College and graduated magna cum laude in chemistry. He subsequently completed an M.D. and Ph.D. in 1986 with his principal area of research in the field of immunology. He completed his medical internship, residency, and chief residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital followed by clinical oncology training at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Once completing his clinical training he worked as a post doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Jeffrey Sklar in the Department of Pathology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital working on topics in molecular diagnostics.
In June 2007, he assumed the position of president and chief executive officer of the Fox Chase Cancer Center. As president, Dr. Seiden is responsible for all strategic planning, finance and operations within the Center and serves as the principal investigator for the NCI-sponsored Comprehensive Cancer Center grant.
