Friday, February 3, 2012

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The African-American Awareness Society of Chestnut Hill College presents the student-produced play, “A Raisin in the Sun” on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, February 25 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, February 26 at 2 p.m. in the College Auditorium located at 9601 Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia.

“A Raisin in the Sun,” written by Leslie Hansberry, portrays the life of the Youngers, an African-American family dealing with their fears, frustrations, longings and dreams during the emergence of the Civil Rights Movement, and a growing awareness of feminism while living on the South Side of Chicago in the 1950s. “A Raisin in the Sun,” which launched the careers of actors Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee, presents the audience with universal themes that range from money issues to sibling rivalry to achieving the “American Dream”. Hansberry's perfect blend of comedy and tragedy, based off on real life experiences makes the play relevant and readily accessible to all audiences.
