PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Chestnut Hill College Alumni Association announces
the selection of alumna Margaret Jackson Quinn, Class of 1964, as the recipient
of the 2009 Eleanore Dolan Egan ’28 Award for Outstanding Service to Chestnut
Hill College. Margaret Jackson Quinn was honored for over 45 years of service to
the College in various volunteer and leadership capacities.
Peggy Jackson Quinn, Class of 1964, became active in
the Alumnae Association early on and has served on virtually every committee and
has performed almost every volunteer job possible. A sampling includes Alumnae
Association Board of Directors, Class Officer (1964), Vice President of the
Alumnae Association Board of Directors (1982-1984), President of the Alumnae
Association Board of Directors (1986-1988), and reunion weekend committees. In
addition, she was the chair of numerous events, including the Summer Party at
the Shore (1988, 1989) the Art Auction, and the Chestnut Hill College 75th
Anniversary Gala Committee.
From the early days of the newly formed Delaware
County Chapter to her most recent service on the Association Bylaws Committee,
Peggy has earned the respect and gratitude of those serving with her. Linda
Smith Williamson ’60 captures the Peggy Quinn as the one who gives “outstanding,
enthusiastic service to CHC…truly constant, never taking a vacation from CHC.”
In fact, Linda recalls, Peggy could be seen on the beaches and tennis courts of
Avalon, New Jersey, selling $50 raffle tickets for what was the annual December
fundraiser. She not only sold a hefty number on her own, but she also recruited
others to do so, all the while talking up her alma mater to all who would listen. Association
past president Barbara D’Iorio Martino ’60 describes Peggy as a “loyal alum and
volunteer to the Association since graduation…giving long and exceptional
service to Chestnut Hill College.”
The Eleanore Dolan Egan ’28 Award for Outstanding
Service to Chestnut Hill College was introduced in 1999, 70 years after the
founding of the Alumnae Association. It is named in memory of the first
president of the Alumnae Association, Eleanore Dolan Egan, who was a member of
the College’s first graduating class in 1928 and a model of volunteerism.
