College Community Volunteers in Appalachia Over Spring Break
Friday, March 4, 2011
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Chestnut Hill College students, staff, and faculty will spend their spring break next week volunteering at the Young People Who Care Mission in Appalachia, doing various service projects for those in need.
This is the third time the College has hosted a service learning trip to Appalachia, where students do various service projects in addition to abandoning all creature comforts. While on the trip, all fourteen volunteers will go without cell-phones, Ipods, computers, radio and texts, along with limited electricity to gain insight into the poverty of the region. In addition to their service work, which can range from construction to painting, yard work, housework, or working on farms, they will spend time in silent reflection and prayer, and education on Catholic social teaching.
