Release Date: Monday, December 19, 2011

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Kelly McKay, a senior communications major and French and business administration minor from Perkasie, Pa. was selected by the Philly Ad Club to receive a $1,000 Philly’s Future Scholarship Award. Kelly was one of 10 students from Philadelphia area colleges and universities to receive the scholarship, which included mentoring and internship opportunities, and a complimentary one-year membership to the Philly Ad Club.
The Philly’s Future Scholarship Awards are presented annually to students who demonstrate high personal, professional and academic achievements and are nominated by a professor from his or her school. Eighteen eligible students were nominated from 15 different colleges and universities across the greater Philadelphia region for the awards.
“The Philadelphia Ad Club is an amazing organization that supplies that important link for communications and marketing students to the real world of work,” says Susan Magee, MFA, assistant professor of communications. “It’s a tremendous resource for internships and networking. When I heard about the scholarship for outstanding students, I knew right away that Kelly was an ideal candidate. She is in departmental honors, a student athlete, writes for the College’s newspaper and she sings and dances in school productions. How many students can do all of that?”
In addition to her scholarship, Kelly also got the opportunity to work this summer at The Philadelphia Business Journal as an event-planning intern, and is now currently an intern at Hoopla Marketing and Public Relations. “When I found out that I was one of the winners of the Philly’s Future Scholarship Award, I knew that this would be a great addition for my resume. I had a feeling it would lead to great internship opportunities. During my interviews for my past and current internships, the supervisors were extremely impressed with the Philly Ad Club scholarship I had received and wanted to hear more about it.”
The Philly Ad Club, a non-profit organization, has served the Philadelphia industry's communication professionals with distinction for the past 65 years. It is one of the region's largest and most active trade associations, with more than 2,000 members. It represents Greater Philadelphia Advertising, Interactive, and Media buying agencies, including broadcast and print media.
