College Celebrates 32nd Annual Carol Night and Christmas Concerts

 A long standing tradition at Chestnut Hill College, the 32nd annual Carol Night will take place on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rotunda of St. Joseph Hall. The College campus is located at 9601 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia.

This holiday celebration includes student performances by the Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, the Hill Singers, Brass Quintet, Gospel Choir, and The Roasted Chestnuts. The program will include a lively selection of songs of the holiday season in strings, horn, jazz, gospel and doo-wop. In keeping with College tradition, the Rotunda and campus will be decorated for the holiday season, courtesy of the undergraduate classes of Chestnut Hill. This holiday decorating tradition, celebrating its 81st year, was started by the first graduating class at Chestnut Hill College in 1927.

The annual Christmas Concert will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 3 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lafayette Hill, Pa. and on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 3 p.m. in the Chestnut Hill College Auditorium on the College campus. The Christmas concert features the Chestnut Hill College Community Chorus directed by Doris Schmauk, and The Doctors’ Chamber Orchestra, directed by Fawzi Habboushe, M.D. The concert program includes works from Ralph Vaughn Williams, Haydn, and Beethoven, as well as seasonal carols and songs. “Rejoice Be Merry,” one of the holiday selections, was composed by Chestnut Hill College Assistant Professor of Music Edward Strauman, Ph.D.
