This graduate program at Chestnut Hill College is ideal for those who:

Currently have a PA teaching certification but desire an additional Special Education certification

Have previously completed a PK-8 or 7-12 special ed preparation program but did not get certified
To be eligible, applicants:
- Must currently have a PA Teaching certificate from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE)
OR
-
Must have previously completed a Teacher Preparation Program, including student teaching
Coursework in this Special Education Certificate Preparation Program will be through a hybrid modality, featuring both online and in-person classes, totaling 18 credit hours.
Upon completion, candidates will be eligible to take the test for Special Education Certification from the PDE.

Who is Eligible to Apply for this Program?
Anyone who currently has a PA Teaching certificate from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) OR who has previously completed a Teacher Preparation Program, including student teaching. This program is designed to extend your current certification into Special Education.
Is Student Teaching Part of this Special Education Certificate Program?
No, student teaching is not a part of the curriculum for this Special Education program. You would need to have already completed your student teaching component for certification before enrolling in this program.
How Long Will this Program Take to Complete?
This program will take you three semesters to complete as a part-time student (two courses per semester). Full-time students can accelerate the completion time to just two semesters (three courses per semester).
